J. Love is a great writer. I don't really like reading but when I read his books, it was different.
I could actually visualize what was going on and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
These two books, Heavy in the Game & The Game Don't Wait actually inspired me to read more. As a young adult, nobody wants to read or we think we don't have time for it, but with these books all you wanna do is read!

It was a good book! The only book I ever read fully. It had a trippy ending. I really never liked reading, but “Heavy in the Game” made me want to read more. I read this book in 2 days. Now I just checked out “The Game Don’t Wait.” I am excited to read it. – Bryan Johnson from SIATech Job Corps

I like this novel. As a student with special needs, I hate to read. My teacher showed me this book and at first I didn't want to read. We started reading and I couldn't put this book down. I read this book in about a week or a week in a half. Usually it takes me months if I finish a book at all. His writing was heavy and real. Everything he was saying was real especially in the hood. I totally relate to this book. I am getting ready to read J. Love's second book "The Game Don't Wait." - Bernard Tyler from SIATech Job Corps

J. Love is an A M A Z I N G writer. I didn’t like reading at first but when i read his books "Heavy in the game” and “The game don’t wait,” I couldn't stop reading it even when my teacher said it was time to do some work. I was visualizing what was going to happened next, I had the urge to read more and more. I can’t wait to read his other books. For me and my fellow students, it has been a big inspiration. And I am sure it will be for others who will read his books. - Roshauna Lewis of SIATech job corps in the Inland Empire.

I really liked your book. It inspired me to read a lot more. I loved how you could really visualize what the book was talking about. I can’t wait until the third book comes out. - Leanne Tribble of job corps in the Inland Empire

Heavy in the Game - I liked the book a lot. It shows you how you can forget about the people that loves you because you're too far in the game. To me, it says how time is never on your side and not in your favor.

The Game Don't Wait - This is the first book I read that made me feel as if I was there because I'm familiar with the setting of South-Central L.A. I like how it tells you exactly how the game really goes. To me, it says you always have control of your future no matter the circumstances.

People don’t really see me walking around with a book, so when they ask me what the book is about I tell them, and then tell them they really need to read it. The last book I read before “Heavy in the Game” was “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss. Heavy in the Game was a good book. A lot of people can relate to it, especially growing up around the situation. I learned a lot reading this book. The way J. Love wrote it, I feel like I am not the only one who went through that stuff. Youngster made a connection with me and my life.

If you read the debut novel by Author J. Love, Heavy in the Game, and couldn’t put it down, then you are sure to keep turning the pages on his follow up novel, The Game Don’t Wait. His gritty raw style keeps the reader interested and eager to see what will happen next. This is a must read! - Arlene Norwood, Los Angeles native

The Game Don't Wait is an honest, raw and intriguing depiction of life in the streets of L.A. J. Love didn't hold any punches in describing the pit falls of bad decisions in the hopes of deterring young people from those same paths. This is a good read! - Danielle Motley, Freelance Editor

This book is the realest book that I have read in a while. This is one of those books that you buy for every young man in your life to read to get the idea that streets and drugs are not the way. I love Youngster and his realness. He can teach a lot of young men the wrong way to live, and teach life lessons along the way. Great book!

Heavy in the Game by J. Love is outstanding!

While reading Heavy in the Game by J. Love I was taken back to the time and place I thought was long forgotten. So many of the situations in the book I was able to reflect on. I was impressed at how the author told the story of passion and love, while at the same time told of the much harsher side of street life. This is one of the books that you hate to end. I can't wait till the next J. Love book hits the stores!

Youngster!
October 7, 2007
By QueenKimberly (Los Angeles, CA) -
Jayshawn King known as Youngster; was raised by a single mother on the outskirts of a Los Angeles neighborhood called "the Jungles". This is an area that the Bloods claim as their territory and where Youngster chose to hustle in. Youngster has no desire to be in a gang. His only goal is to make money to take care of his son; and eventually get out of the game. But a crime that happens years ago seems to follow him. It was definitely nice to hear from a west coast writer. I enjoyed reading and recognizing all the places that the author spoke of. Even though Youngster did his dirt, the author made it hard for you not to like him.

Greatest book ever!!!!!

I was one of the first people who got the chance to read this book and I must say this book is addictive. When I started to read 'Heavy in the Game', I wasn’t able to stop reading it. I had to know what is happening next. So I read it within 24 hours. It’s the greatest book I have ever read!!!! I told all my friends about it, and for those who knows me, they know I don’t talk about books. But 'Heavy in the Game' is the greatest book I have ever read in my entire life. I hope to see more books coming out from J.Love. He is a great writer and I can’t wait to read more books by him. Thanks J.Love for writing such a great book!!!!

An amazing read!!!

I loved this book. I thought it was written very well. I started to read it at 8:30am while at work and managed to finish it by 3pm that same day (while doing work of course). I couldn't put the book down, I just had to keep reading it. I love how the author showed both sides of Youngster, the hustler and the father. I cannot wait until the next book comes out! Keep writing Mr. Love!!!
